Building the Backdrop Behind your Vintage Snapshot
During this workshop you will create two complete pieces of art, one outdoor and one indoor setting for your chosen photograph of an individual.
For the outdoors you will be using ephemera, paint, and other various mediums to build a somewhat abstract sky, ground, and even trees with leaves if you would like. Through images, clouds of text, houses with revealing windows, and circled words you will add layer to layer and even uncover parts of your buried layers.
For the indoors you will create a 2-dimensional interior room. You will be building hardwood floors and plaster walls. We will hang pictures on the walls and ephemera will be applied and sanded to appear to be part of the wall you put it on. We can add windows and doors, corners and crawl spaces, cracks, grafitti… You name it!
In creating both pieces you will learn how to draw our viewers into our work by creating a sense of intimacy, a peek into someone’s personal space, telling their personal story.
PHOTO POLICY: Please ASK the instructor prior to taking any photographs during class time. The instructor's preference should be adhered to at all times.
